About
Já Acabou, Jéssica? refers to a Portuguese phrase said by a Brazilian teenage girl during a fight filmed in front of a school. The video of the fight went viral on November 2015, showing the teen getting up and, with a defying stance, asking the other girl: "Is it over, Jessica?" The pose made by the girl, along with the catchphrase, generated montages and remixes on the internet.
Origin
On November 16th, 2015, the Facebook[1] meme page Não Salvo posted a video of a fight between two Brazilian students, Lara, 14 years old at the time, and Jéssica, 13 years old at the time, exchanging slaps in front of a school in Alto Jequitibá, Minas Gerais. During the fight, Lara gets up off the ground and says the Portuguese phrase "Já acabou, Jéssica?" (Is it over, Jessica?) According to local news[2], the reason for the fight was due to jealousy. The video posted by the meme page received 2.5 million views and 40,000 likes in eight years (seen below).
Spread
The video of the fight between the teens spread rapidly in just a few hours after it was uploaded on Facebook. For instance, on November 20th, 2015, the Brazilian creator Rodrigo Martins[3] uploaded a comic book story based on the fight. The artwork depicts Lara with elements of classic comic book characters and other popular Brazilian memes (seen below).
Lara's pose after getting up from the fight was turned into an exploitable image macro on social media. For example, the Facebook[4] meme page OlhaKiridinha posted a Photoshopped image of the girl alongside Miss Universe contestants, garnering 2,200 likes and 262 comments in eight years (seen below).
Memes parodying the girl's pose also have been created on social media. For instance, Facebook[5] meme page 1ns4nity posted an edited video of the fight in which the girl transforms into a Super Saiyan from the Dragon Ball anime. The video garnered 27,000 views and 590 likes in eight years (seen below).
