About
Kanye West and Aldi refers to a series of memes about rapper Kanye West and the grocery store chain Aldi because of a lyric on his song "PROBLEMATIC" that reads, "Your dress code upscale, used to shop at Aldi's." Kanye West Aldi memes first surfaced on TikTok because of song parodies that replaced keywords with "Aldi." The meme then spread to Reddit and YouTube in late 2024. Many of the videos followed the same visual format as Bad Walking Dead Edits which overuse CapCut filters and effects.
Origin
On November 4th, 2024, TikToker[1] @yeezytravis posted a video of Kanye using an AI voice in which Kanye says that he's dropping a song called "Reach For the Aldi," as in, the grocery store brand. The video received over 177,800 plays and 27,400 likes in a month (shown below).

The joke was because of a lyric on Kanye West's song "PROBLEMATIC" from his 2024 album VULTURES 1, reading, "Your dress code upscale, used to shop at Aldi's."[2] His Aldi reference was noticed by users on Twitter / X [3][4] following the album's February 2024 release.

In the following weeks, TikToker @yeezytravis shared more Kanye West and Aldi videos, like one TikTok[5] posted on November 12th, 2024, in which the AI-voiced West talks about a "Life of Aldi" album, gaining over 246,100 plays and 38,900 likes in a month (shown below).

During the same timeframe, TikToker @yeezytravis began posting his Aldi song parodies to YouTube,[6] starting with "Through The ALDI" shared on November 9th. It received over 12,200 views in a month (shown below).
Posts about Kanye West and Aldi started to surface on the /r/Kanye[7][8] subreddit later in November 2024.
TikToker[9] @yeezytravis' viral videos continued in December 2024. Others started adding to the trend. For instance, on December 3rd, TikToker[10] @kdott616 posted a video that used the original "PROBLEMATIC" verse, adding a text caption that joked, "This song is forever cursed," gaining over 232,100 plays and 33,500 likes in three weeks (shown below).

On December 21st, 2024, TikToker[11] @poopygorillaface posted a video that added to the trend, gaining over 77,500 plays and 15,600 likes in nine days (shown below).
