About
Kermit Goatse refers to an image of a Kermit the Frog puppet which is leaning over a couch cushion, with both of it's hands reaching into the puppeteer hole in a similar fashion to the infamous shock image Goatse. Since it's original posting, the image has been used in various different Image Macros, usually in reference to pop culture or showing Kermit as being Down Bad.
Origin
The first recorded image of the Goatse Kermit was posted on July 22nd, 2009, in the bitsandpieces.us forums[1], where an anonymous user first posted the image in a thread titled 'Kermit noooo'. It is unknown if this poster was the one who originally set up the Kermit puppet in this position and took the picture, but other postings of Kermit around the time period were the same file size or smaller (shown below).
One of the first examples of the image itself being used in a humorous context outside of Kermit being doing the Goatse pose was posted a few months later on the Gizmodo forums, in which an Jesus Diaz[2] user created a threat titled 'idea of the day, use your hand puppet as a cellphone case' while posting an image of Kermit Goatse with a phone Photoshopped into his Kermussy (shown below).
Spread
In the years following, the Kermit Goatse would continue to see usage, though mostly as a part of an image macro. An example of this was posted on the website Pikabu.ru in which the user @podmuhoi[3] uploaded the image, via 9gag, with one of Kermit's iconic quotes 'it ain't easy being green' used as bottom text as possible context for why he's doing the Goatse pose, earning over 250 likes in 11 years (shown below).
Over a decade later, online meme creators would continue to adapt the image to fit current meme trends. On September 9th, 2022, the Imgur user Grolborne[4] uploaded a cropped version of the image, with a caption giving a POV slant to it, saying that it's what happens when you get called BabyGirl, earning over 1,900 upvotes in two years (shown below).
