"Kill Yourself" Lesbians Kissing refers to a GIF of two naked Asian women, Japanese adult film performers Yuna Shiina and Ayu Sakurai, kissing passionately in a pool of water. The GIF, usually captioned "kill yourself" or "never kill yourself" in the style of a Demotivational Poster meme, has repeatedly gone viral and garnered large numbers of goonmarks on social media starting in 2022, inspiring merch and memes over the following years.

Origin

The clip of two naked Japanese women kissing passionately in a pool of water comes from the 2014 Japanese Adult Video (JAV) BBAN-008 Yuna Shiina and Ayu Sakurai's Lesbian Trip, released on July 7th, 2014.^[1] The clip features the Japanese adult film stars Yuna Shiina (left) and Ayu Sakurai (right) (censored still image shown below).

On July 28th, 2014, Tumblr^[2] user rosesandangst shared a two-second-long GIF based on the scene (original post since removed). In the following years, the GIF saw online spread through reposts on Tumblr^[3][4] and other sites.

Spread

Prior to June 2022, an unknown user, presumably on Discord, shared a Demotivational Poster meme based on the GIF, captioning it, "kill yourself" (censored version shown below). On June 4th, 2022, Redditor tastylemonhair made the earliest found repost of the image, writing that they saw it in a meme and asking for the source of the GIF. The post received over 70 upvotes in the /r/pornID^[5] subreddit in three years.

From 2022 through 2024, the demotivational GIF was reposted on X / Twitter, Reddit and other social media multiple times, with several posts going viral.

For example, on June 29th, 2023, X^[6] user @mana_nsfw reposted the GIF, with their post gaining over 516,000 views and 380 likes in two years. On October 27th, 2024, X^[7] user @screamnhorror reposted the GIF, with their post accumulating over 30.6 million views, 16,000 reposts, 306,000 likes and 139,000 goonmarks in four months.

On October 28th, 2024, X^[8] user @time222smoke posted a version of the GIF recaptioned with the text, "never kill yourself," a then-popular catchphrase in memes. The post (censored version shown below) gained over 200,000 views, 430 reposts and 3,500 likes in four months and also saw viral spread alongside the original.

On February 9th, 2025, X^[9] user @tessiconic shared a photograph of herself and another young woman, both wearing shirts based on the two versions of the GIF produced by KAVARI, commenting, "Obsessed that me and this girl were wearing opposite shirts lmao." The post (shown below) received over 6,300 reposts and 163,000 likes in three days, while in the following days, the shirts have been compared^[10][11] to a lesbian equivalent of the Ahegao Hoodie.
