On March 30th, 2024, X^[1] user @xbox_awesome posted a speed-up GIF of a scene from the 2024 Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire movie in which a giant gorilla is trying to intimidate King Kong, who knocks down the animal to the ground in a single punch. The tweet (shown below) amassed more than 2 million views and 66,000 likes in a day.

Shortly after @xbox_awesome's tweet went viral, people started to use the scene in memes about King Kong's mewing. For example, on March 30th, 2024, TikTok^[2] @lion_blue095 posted an edit adding the Soyjaks vs. Chads meme overlayed on the scene (shown below, left), which garnered more than 5,000 plays and 411 likes in a day. On the same day, TikTok^[3] user @caliph_37 posted a similar edit showing Kong doing the "mewing" tongue exercise. The post (shown below, right) amassed roughly 55,000 plays and 2,800 likes in a day.
