Kitten I'll Be Honest, Daddy's About to Kill Himself is a catchphrase popularized through a series of memes, including image macros, in which characters from various fandoms are depicted alongside the statement. The phrase was first posted to X (Twitter) in November 2022 by user @adifying and went viral over the following years as it was used in image macro memes.
Origin
On November 20th, 2022, X[1] user @adifying posted, "kitten I’ll be honest daddy’s about to kill himself," garnering over 253,000 likes and 40,000 reposts in roughly two years (shown below).
Spread
The phrase started to spread through memes in the following days. On November 22nd, 2022, X[2] user peachglumpear posted an edit of a manga panel using the phrase, garnering around 700 likes in two years (shown below, left). On November 24th, Tumblr[3] user lilalbatross posted a meme that gained over 1,000 notes in the same span of time (shown below, right).
On June 1st, 2023, X[4] user @yuykrn posted the phrase over an image of Osamu Dazai from Bungo Stray Dogs, garnering over 3,300 likes in eight months. On July 17th, X[5] user @ly4guha posted a meme in which Blade from Honkai Star Rail says a variation of the line, garnering over 22,000 likes in seven months (shown below).
On September 4th, Instagram[6] user wilddaggers posted a piece of art where Astarion from Baldur's Gate 3 says the phrase, garnering over 9,000 likes in five months (shown below, left). On February 5th, 2024, X[7] user @bimbovirus posted a piece of artwork imagining Wesker from Resident Evil saying the phrase to his Pokemon Psyduck, garnering over 49,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).
