About
Last Normal Photo refers to a trend that emerged in May of 2020 in which people posted the last picture they had on their camera rolls before entering coronavirus quarantines.
Origin
On May 16th, 2020, the BBC[1] published a piece in which they shared thirteen examples of the last picture taken before entering quarantine sent in by readers (examples shown below).
Spread
The same day the BBC piece was published, Twitter[2] user @RobynVinter asked Twitter users to share their last "normal" photo before quarantine, gaining over 1,100 retweets, 11,000 likes and 8,000 replies.
In response, thousands of Twitter users began sharing pictures of the last pre-pandemic picture they'd taken on their phone, many of which used the hashtag #LastNormalPhoto. Popular examples include a tweet by @MitonGafur,[3] who posted a picture of himself at a bathhouse, gaining over 170 retweets and 3,600 likes (shown below, left). Actor Patrick Stewart[4] posted a picture of himself with several other famous actors, gaining over 520 retweets and 8,100 likes (shown below, right).
