Baby Jabba refers to a fan art 3D-rendering of Star Wars character Jabba the Hut. The piece, created by 3D character artist Leonardo Viti, grew popular after the character was posted by actress Olivia Munn. It was compared to the popular character Baby Yoda from The Mandalorian.
Origin
On November 28th, 2019, Instagram user and 3D artist Leonardo Viti posted a rendering of what Star Wars character Jabba the Hutt would look like as a baby.[1] The post gained over 2,200 likes (shown below).
Spread
The same day, the character was posted to Reddit[2] by user acauteledo, gaining over 30,000 points. The image did not begin gaining widespread attention until January 19th, 2020. That day, actress Olivia Munn posted the picture to her Instagram,[3] gaining over 47,000 likes (shown below, left). The same day, Twitter[4] user @awahihte posted the picture, gaining over 890 retweets and 3,600 likes (shown below, right).
These posts led to several news publications to cover the piece, including Comicbook[5] and Screenrant.[6] The spread of the image inspired several reactions on Twitter. User @thecurlymolloy[7] joked that Baby Jabba was reminiscent of the baby from the television show Dinosaurs (shown below, left). User @cocainhonesty[8] posted "Babby Jabba > Baby Yoda," gaining over 60 retweets and 580 likes (shown below, right).
