About

Libertarian Guys With Asian Wives, or LGWAW, is a Facebook group and meme page dedicated to connecting, celebrating and sharing supportive posts for libertarian men and their East Asian wives. The page's existence caused mixed reactions by netizens from other websites, receiving critique, support and genuine curiosity towards the seriousness of the group due to its own very specific demographic.

Origin

LGWAW was created on May 27th, 2020, with its first post being the page's logos, which reference "Mr Park", one of the Roof Koreans (shown below, left).^[1] Its admins, Jack and Pho Lloyd, are an American married WMAF couple who often appear in the page's posts, sometimes to promote merchandise, or to take part in some of the memes themselves. For example, on June 5th, 2021, the Lloyds (shown below, right) posed for a Florida Man cover song in one of their posts.^[2]

LGWAW also supports Pho Lloyd's more popular Facebook profile and YouTube channel,^[3]^[4] both named "The Pholosopher".^[5]^[6] On her channel and profile, Mrs Lloyd widely talks about libertarian topics and ideals in a more serious approach. Since its first posts, LGWAW has been a racially inclusive group, with libertarian men of various ethnic backgrounds who all have in common an East Asian wife.^[7]

The page received negative reactions from Redditors, particularly the ones from the r/Justneckbeardthings subreddit. On November 7th, 2020, The_Mix_Kid_x shared a screenshot of one of the page's memes, garnering 8,000 points in 2 years (shown below, left).^[8] On December 2nd, 2020, a meme denying the accusations of yellow fever was posted by DynamoJonesJr, which received over 345 points in 2 years (shown below, right).^[9]

Despite criticism also coming from iFunny users and some TikTok users,^[10]^[11]^[12] the Facebook community grew to receive over 13,000 followers and 12,000 page likes in 2 years.^[13] On January 5th, 2023, a post saying that Mark Zuckerberg was part of "Authoritarian Guys With Asian Wives" was shared on the page, which received 305 likes in 3 months (shown, below).^[14]

Although there are edits of LGWAW's logo (usually with races or genders swapped) posted on the page itself,^[15]^[16] some have been created and shared around by independent artists or shitposters. On February 25th, 2021, a Political Compass meme of the LGWAW logo was posted on Instagram by Toona_Coochie, which received over 275 likes in 3 years (shown below, left).^[17] On September 17th, 2021, a variant of the logo saying "Libertarian Chasers With Boymoder Wives", featuring a Coomer, was posted on Twitter by @bingus_enjoyer with a Many Such Cases caption (shown below, right). The tweet received 2,445 likes and over 115 retweets in 2 years.^[18]
