About

Lit, Crazy, Movie refers to a viral TikTok video of two women interviewing a drunk young man. They ask him to describe his night in three words, and he says "lit, crazy, movie." The video became the subject of jokes calling the description of his night cringe, particularly when he compares the night to a movie. The Original Sound became notably popular starting in September 2021 in lip dub skits joking about the things that young people perceive as cool but aren't in retrospect.

Origin

On September 12th, 2021, TikToker[1] @mia.sullivann posted a video where several girls approach a group of allegedly drunk people and hold a microphone up to a young man with a bird's nest haircut. They ask him, "describe your night in three words," and he says, "lit, crazy, movie," inferring the night was like a movie. The video gained over 2.6 million views in just over a month (shown below).

The majority of the video's top comments are joking about the young man's answers being cringey and overexaggerated, particularly for describing it as a movie. TikToker @shangela123 commented "Middle schoolers going to the school dance and getting their first hug," gaining over 27,000 likes.

Spread

The Original Sound for the video became popular over the course of the month, inspiring lip dub skits about situations that a young person or child might find exciting or insane, but aren't in retrospect. For example, on September 26th, TikToker[3] @colamonkey123 posted a video about buying a vape as a kid then throwing it out after a single use, gaining over 2.1 million views in a month (shown below, left). On the same day, TikToker[4] @anonymoushomie posted a video of her parents partying with her at college, gaining over 1.9 million views in the same span of time (shown below, right). By October 21st the sound had been used over 16,800 times.

The phrase "lit, crazy, movie" has spread outside of TikTok, often used ironically on photos of nights out. On September 28th, actress and Instagram[2] user, Talia Ryder posted a series of selfies with the caption "Lit, crazy, movie," gaining over 169,000 likes in a month.
