About
Lovander is a Pal from the 2024 video game Palworld depicted as a pink, bipedal, lizard-like creature. Lovander is entry number 69 on the Paldex and is described as "seeking a night of love," writing that, "at first it only showed interest in other Pals, but in recent years humans have become the target of its debauchery." The Pal went viral online following the game's early access release, inspiring memes and fan art, including rule 34, on social media.
Origin
On January 19th, 2024, the early access version of Palworld was released on Steam and Xbox. One of the game's catchable creatures, known as Pals, is Lovander, a tall, pink, bipedal, lizard-like creature with heart-shaped fur covering its chest. Lovander is entry number 69 in the game's "Paldex" and is described: "Seeking a night of love, it is always chasing someone around. At first, it only showed interest in other Pals, but in recent years even humans have become the target of its debauchery."
Lovander was first showcased on the Pocketpair YouTube[1] channel on December 29th, 2023, before the game's release, when it was entry 49 rather than 69, in a video that garnered over 113,000 views in a month (shown below).

Lovander became the subject of memes and discussions nearing the early access release of Palworld, with many bringing attention to the sexual nature of the Pal. On January 16th, 2024, Redditor u/HalfwittedRotmg posted a screenshot of Lovander's Paldex entry to /r/Palworld,[2] writing, "What did the Palworld devs mean by this?" garnering over 700 upvotes in a week. On January 19th, X[3] user @jifferey posted an image of Lovander, writing, "In palworld, the 69th deck entry is Lovander, a tall lizard like pal with a carnal desire to mate. They eventually moved on from pals and to humans. I'm not making this up," garnering over 27,000 likes in six days.
On January 20th, the same X[4] user wrote, "The absolute worst part about having a pink lizard rapist in my camp, is she is actually one of my best workers and I need more of her," which was reposted to /r/196[5] that day, garnering over 12,000 likes and 3,100 upvotes respectively in five days(shown below).
On January 21st, X[6] user @DoeChops posted a flirting vs. harassment meme comparing Lovander to the Pokemon Salazzle, garnering over 11,000 likes in four days (shown below, left). A similar meme was posted to /r/lostpause[7] that day, garnering over 900 upvotes in the same span of time (shown below, right). On January 22nd, X[8] user @LookAtMyMeat1 posted a meme about Lovander that gained over 5,000 likes in three days.
Lovander also became the subject of fan art, including lewd fan art. For example, on January 22nd, X[9] user @CarrotRipley posted a piece of fan art depicting Lovander in a maid costume that gained over 3,000 likes in three days (shown below).
