The March 3rd, 2024 Tragedy refers to a doomsday prediction from a viral tweet reading "The Za Got Me Thinking About Tragedies That Havent Even Happened Yet .. March 3rd 2024 .. Damn…." that was posted by Twitter / X user @2dollarbeer in November 2022. As the date approached in early 2024, meme creators resurfaced the tweet, humorously speculating what tragedy would occur on the date.
Origin
On November 13th, 2022, X[1] user @2dollarbeer tweeted, "the Za got me thinking about tragedies that havent even happened yet .. March 3rd 2024 .. damn…." gaining over 100,400 likes in two years (shown below). The tweet has since been deleted.[1]
Spread
Going into 2023, a screenshot of the tweet began to spread, which started with a tweet shared by X[2] user @zephanijong on March 3rd, 2023, who said, "one year guys …" gaining over 4,800 likes in 11 months (shown below, left). Viral reposts then surfaced on Instagram[3] in March 2023.
Viral reposts of the tweet screenshot continued to surface on Instagram[4] and X[5] in late 2023. On January 1st, 2024, X[6] user @leonn3005 posted the screenshot, writing, "doomsday is coming," gaining over 55,000 likes in a month (shown below, right).
Memes about the tweet persisted in early 2024, like a post shared by X[7] user @illjoy_ on February 14th, 2024, who labeled the tweet, "paul atreides," as in the protagonist of Dune, earning over 17,000 likes in nine days (shown below).
