Mayo Pete is a pejorative nickname for South Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg. The memes, which play on Buttigieg's nickname "Mayor Pete," have two meanings both related to the the color of mayonnaise. The first indicates that the Democratic presidential candidate's policies favor white people. While the other, less incisive meaning, refers to a "blandness" in Buttigieg's campaign, similar to use of the flavor "vanilla."
