Pete Buttigieg "Shape of Democracy" Parodies is an image edit series featuring 2020 democratic presidential candidate "Mayor Pete Buttigieg holding a microphone and standing in front of a United States flag.

Origin

On February 6th, 2020, Mayor Buttigieg's Twitter ^[1] account featured the image of Buttigieg with the caption "The shape of our democracy is the issue that affects every other issue." The post received more than 4,400 likes and 550 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below).

Spread

Shortly after the post, podcaster Felix Biederman shared the image with the caption,^[2] "the value of freedom is the thing that allows our rights to be true." Within 24 hours, the tweet received more than 11,000 likes and 820 retweets (shown below, left).

Later that night, others began posting photoshop parodies of the image. Twitter^[3] user @k_morrissey published a blank version of the image with the formatting specifications (shown below, center).

That night, Twitter^[4] user @JustinWhang published a variation that uses the This Nigga Eating Beans copypasta. The post received more than 12,000 likes and 1,800 retweets in less than 24 hours (shown below, right).
