The photo grew popular during with 2024 Summer Paris Olympics in early August 2024, with various recaptioned edit of things someone likes.

Origin

On October 13th, 2019, EPA-EFE photographer Daniel Kopatsch published a photo of Simone Biles wearing her five gold medals after the women's Apparatus Final at the 2019 Gymnastic World Championships. The image was published in USA Today^[1] (shown below).

On August 3rd, 2024, Reddit^[2] user sheilamlin uploaded the earliest known edit to use a similar photo from the event, captioning the picture, "Me if loving King of the Hill was an Olympic sport," to the /r/KingOfTheHill subreddit. The post received 257 upvotes in four days (shown below).

Spread

Starting in August of 2024, the image grew popular as a reception meme, with various edits championing a specific brand or object. For example, on August 5th, 2024, Twitter / X^[3] user @akutaguro uploaded an edit for showing love to the Ryuunosuke Akutagawa and Atsushi Nakajima ship from _Bungou Stray Dogs (also known as SSKK). The post received over 1,900 likes in two days (shown below, left). The next day, Twitter / X^[4] user @ranpoecult uploaded an edit that received over 2,100 likes in one day (shown below, right).

On August 6th, 2024, Twitter / X^[5] user @TINYNOCEDA uploaded an edit about The Owl House and received over 4,300 likes in one day (shown below, left). The next day, Twitter / X^[6] user @mascyang uploaded an edit about loving RWBY. The post received over 1,800 likes in less than one day (shown below, right).
