Mutsuki's California Gurls Dance refers to Blue Archive character Asagi Mutsuki performing the "shake it" emote from Friday the 13th: The Game with the song "California Gurls" by Katy Perry in the background. The meme is similar to Chads Dancing to California Gurls in Friday the 13th: The Game, but it is better known as Mutsuki's Dance in the Blue Archive community.

On September 18th, 2022, YouTube[1] user Jaymie uploaded a video of Blue Archive character Asagi Mutsuki performing the "shake it" emote from game Friday the 13th: The Game with the song "California Gurls" by Katy Perry. The video received more than 351,000 views in one year (shown below).

Spread

Starting in 2022, the dance gained popularity in the community, leading it to be known as Mutsuki's Dance. For example on September 20th, 2022 YouTube[2] user Jenova Jeremy (John) uploaded an edit and received more than 1.1 million views in one year (shown below, left). On October 2nd, 2022, YouTube[3] user мıко uploaded edited Blue Archive gameplay featuring the dance. The video received more than 426,000 views in one year (shown below, right).

On December 30th, 2022, Steam[4] user Cuba uploaded a mod for the game Left 4 Dead 2 titled "Asagi Mutsuki – Blue Archive". In the mod, the player can change the Louis character into Asagi Mutsuki from Blue Archive with several changes, including the ability to do the "shake it" emote when healing herself. On February 4th, 2023, YouTube[5] user 𝓙𝓪𝓭𝓮21𝓼𝓽 🇵🇭 uploaded a gameplay video with the Left 4 Dead 2 mod gameplay (shown below).

On July 7th, 2023, Facebook[6] page Closed weeb uploaded a Fly Me to the Moon edit using Mutsuki's dance. The video received more than 6,600 reactions and 2,100 shares in seven months (shown below, left). On November 20th, 2023, the Facebook page Chiimanju uploaded a video of a Mutsuki cosplayer performing the dance. The video received more than 10,000 reactions and 1,700 shares in three months (shown below, right).
