The audio was posted in April 2022 and became popular in lip dub skits throughout June and July of that year.

Origin

On April 5th, 2022, TikToker^[1] @rabbyyy_ posted a video using a voice-changing effect where he says in an echoing voice, "My brother in Christ you are scaring the hoes," gaining over 137,000 views in four months. The next day, the TikToker^[2] posted the same video as an original sound, gaining over 390,000 views in four months (shown below).

The original sound became popular over the following months, particularly throughout June and July 2022, inspiring over 12,000 videos by August 2nd. The majority of the videos are lip dub skits where users joke about things people do that "scare the hoes" away. For example, on May 11th, 2022, TikToker^[3] @theuniversespartner posted a video where she claims her best friend scares away the hoes when they hang out, as people think they're a lesbian couple, gaining over 1.7 million views in three months (shown below, left). On June 24th, TIkToker^[4] @bumblebeeslay posted a video about her parents embarrassing her using the sound, gaining over 3.5 million views in a month (shown below, right).
