About

New York, Stand The Fuck Up or New York Stand TF Up refers to a 2022 Nicki Minaj lyric from her song "We Go Up" that became notable on TikTok due to a trend in which creators "stood up" for New York City in humorous skits despite being in other, odd locations or countries.

Origin

On March 25th, 2022, Nicki Minaj dropped a song with Fivio Foreign called, "We Go Up," uploading it to YouTube on the same day where, over the course of two months, it received roughly 4.2 million views and 164,000 likes (shown below).

On April 23rd, 2022, TikToker[1] fendisonika posted a video of DJ Khaled standing up, using the first ten seconds of "We Go Up" when Minaj says, "New York, stand the fuck up." Khaled, in the TikTok, stands up alongside the lyric, representing, "Me in Germany." Over the course of 11 days, the video received roughly 148,900 plays and 28,100 likes (shown below).

Spread

TikTokers started to use fendisonika's sound in subsequent remakes of their video, referencing other settings where they were "standing up." For instance, on April 24th, 2022, TikToker[2] positions_rem used Khaled to represent London, England, earning roughly 164,600 plays and 42,100 likes in ten days (shown below, left). On April 25th, 2022, TikToker[3] raufyybbyy also posted a UK version, earning roughly 859,300 plays and 232,100 likes in nine days (shown below, right).

The settings in which creators were standing up became increasingly absurd going into May 2022. For instance, on April 26th, 2022, TiKToker[4] sohairhussain used the green-screen effect to show him standing up in Pakistan, earning roughly 336,100 plays and 72,600 likes in eight days (shown below, left). His video also received a comment from Nicki Minaj herself. On April 27th, 2022, TikToker[5] mfselogirl used the green-screen effect to show herself in a Croatian village, earning roughly 362,300 plays and 80,400 likes in one week (shown below, right).
