Not In My World. Not In The World I'm Living In refers to a reaction and image macro meme featuring Hollywood actress Laura Dern in the show Enlightened. The GIF shows Dern wearing a blue collared shirt with a red pin alongside closed caption text that reads, "Not in my world. Not in the world I'm living in." The GIF was first used to viral effect in 2024 and spawned more memes in April 2025.
Origin
The second episode of the second season of the HBO show Enlightened aired on January 20th, 2013.[1] The episode showed the protagonist Amy Jellicoe (played by Laura Dern) talking to her mother about her friend Krista, who is hospitalized due to pregnancy complications. Amy's mother suggests offering a handmade pillow as a gesture of kindness, to which Amy responds: "Not in my world. Not in the world I'm living in."
The earliest known use of the scene as a meme was a June 20th, 2024, post[2] by X / Twitter user @C_GraceT. The tweet saw @C_GraceT using the GIF in reaction to a tweet that read, "hating your friend's boyfriend is a lost art."

Spread
The meme so sporadic usage in late 2024, as seen in an October 20th, 2024, tweet[3] by X user @annaeknutson. However, the GIF did not become popularized until February 2025, with X[4] user @H4TEDEMON using the GIF to list off things they are not interested in but are considered popular or prominent, like, "'bbno$' 'Slushynoobz' 'Tate mcrae' 'Elon musk' 'White lotus.'" The post gathered over 31,000 likes in three months.

On March 1st, X[5] user @pastapilled used the GIF to write, "The concept of overnight oats," gathering over 24,000 likes in two months.

On March 2nd, X[6] user @deliclit tweeted, "'Poppi' and 'olipop,'" gathering over 37,000 likes in two months.

On April 7th, 2025, X[7] user @NC_Renic posted an image from the scene alongside a tweet that read, "'Reading is relaxing' Academics." The post gathered over 3,000 likes in two weeks.
