About

Not Me Being Goofy I- is a reaction image and series of memes based on a viral Facebook post in which a woman shares a photo of herself smiling, side-by-side with another picture of her striking a funny face and the caption reading, "Not me being goofy I-😭." The post started spreading online as early as November 2018 and became the subject of memes over the following years, including usage as a reaction image to react to cringeworthy posts and posts expressing "so random" humor, as well as becoming the subject of various edits and recreations. The meme has notably been compared to the She's So Crazzzzzzzy Love Her meme.

Origin

It is unclear who originally made the post or what the larger context behind it is. The earliest known repost of the image was posted on November 10th, 2018, to a listicle-style article titled "21 beautiful girls reveal the ugly selfies" by klankosova.tv[1] cropping out the Facebook post context (shown below, left). The article mentions the 2011 Pretty Girls Ugly Faces trend, suggesting the photos could be a part of the social media trend, although this is unconfirmed.

On December 28th, 2020, X[2] user @reactjpg posted a more complete version of the meme, which features the caption, "Not me being goofy I-" and reveals the photos to be part of a Facebook post, garnering over 160 likes in four years (shown below, right).
