About

"Creamsicle" is the name given to a ship between two characters created to parody the difference between "real girls" and "other girls".

Origin

On May 6, 2012, tumblr user beekkake posted the original image onto their blog. [1] The purpose of the post was parody, but was quickly misinterpreted and the beekkake was criticized.

Initial Parody

The first few parodies of beekkake's initial post were done in the same list style. Parodies would often exchange one or both "Other Girls" and "Normal/Me" with something else.

Creamsicle

When tumblr user tokimekuwaku reblogged the post [2], they attached an image of the two characters kissing and added the caption "I dunno you guys… I think they should make out", leading to several pieces of fanart to be created of the two characters in romantic situations. The two characters were not given names until tumblr user Orchid Poison's post, naming the two characters "Other Girls-Sempai" and "Normal-Chan". [3]

A tumblr blog dedicated to the pairing called "Fuck Yeah Creamsicle" was created May 7th, 2012. [4] The pairing was featured on The Mary Sue shortly afterwards. [5] Josh Lesnick, the creator of the popular webcomic "Girly!", even contributed to the fandom with a work of his own. [6] Within the first hour, the his post had 200 notes.

Spinoff Characters

As fanfiction and headcanons were being created of the two characters, other spinoff characters were created to parody other common stereotypes.
