Overwatch "Play of the Game" Parodies are spoof videos mimicking the "Play of the Game"[1] sequence displayed at the end of games in the multiplayer first-person shooter video game Overwatch, which showcase an impressive feat performed a single player during the match.
Origin
On August 7th, 2015, YouTuber President Awall uploaded a montage parody featuring a "Play of the Game" made with the hero character Reaper during the Overwatch alpha testing phase (shown below).
Spread
On May 11th, 2016, YouTuber CompletelyGarbage posted a video titled "After an Overwatch Match," featuring a Spongebob Squarepants clip edited with the Overwatch characters Baston and Torbjörn arguing over the "Play of the Game" (shown below, left). On May 26th, YouTuber Stepper uploaded a clip of the hero character Lucio's "Play of the Game" opening sequence followed by a clip of a young boy dancing with a dog (shown below, right).
On May 27th, Twitter user @SeclusiveBlue[5] posted a parody for the hero character Winston featuring a clip of Donkey Kong in the game Super Smash Bros. (shown below). Within one week, the tweet gathered upwards of 12,800 likes and 11,200 retweets.

On May 28th, YouTuber deerspace uploaded a montage of "Play of the Game" sequences followed by humorous live action videos (shown below, left). The following day, Twitter users @wazhlon[3] and @DariuskiS4[4] posted parodies featuring the characters Reinhardt and Mei followed by similar live action clips. On May 31st, YouTuber FalloutSeeker posted another montage titled "Overwatch 'Play of the Game' Meme Compilation 2" (shown below, right).
