Parents Got Confused n Chose Thought Daughter refers to a series of memes using an image macro of R&B artist Frank Ocean staring out over a balcony captioned, "Parents got confused n chose thought daughter." The image macro first appeared on TikTok as early as April 2024 and was popularized that June through a series of recaption memes in which the image macro is shown with an altered caption following the phrasal template "Parents Got Confused N Chose X Daughter," followed by a collection of images or content representing the type of person the uploader is, often through text message screenshots.
Origin
On April 18th, 2024, TikToker[1] @cgr2024 posted a video that begins with an image macro using an image of Frank Ocean staring over a balcony captioned, "Parents got confused n chose thought daughter." The video then cuts to a clip of the user scrolling through their blurred text messages, which are noticeably long, meant to show that the girl is a "thought daughter" because she thinks or overthinks a lot. The video gained over 215,000 views in five months.

On April 24th, 2024, X[2] user @whotfisjovana posted the image macro in isolation, garnering over 600 likes in five months. On May 4th, TikToker[3] @maria_shte posted a slideshow starting with the image macro and the altered caption, "parents got confused n chose shart daughter," followed by texts in which the user tells someone that they're pooping, garnering over 1.7 million views in four months.
On June 11th, TikToker[4] @annaj4nelle posted a video following the format in which she shows a compilation video of herself striking out while playing baseball following the image macro, which reads "strike out daughter," garnering over 500,000 views in three months.
On June 23rd, X[5] user @gigifreely posted several screenshots of an unknown TikToker's version of the meme in which they show off their daily steps, the image macro claiming she's a "walk daughter," writing, "Who's gonna tell her," suggesting that the steps shown are below what the poster considers impressive, garnering over 11,000 likes in three months.

On July 15th, 2024, X[6] user @phhpixie posted, "parents got confused and chose this is me trying daughter," garnering over 23,000 likes in two months. On August 8th, X[7] user @saintgumi posted two photographs, writing, "parents got confused and chose self-isolating daughter," garnering over 11,000 likes in a month.
