About

DalasReview is the YouTube alias of Spaniard vlogger Dalas Azahar Blanco. In Spanish-speaking networks and circles, Dalas has been notorious due to his feuds with other Youtubers and the content of his videos.

Online History

Dalas started his first Youtube channel back in September 8th, 2006, named DanyTheDark which uploaded various animations and magic trick videos.[1] His first video, an animated parody of a Nike Air commercial, has been removed from the channel but has been reuploaded by the fans. On July 17th, 2009 he created a second channel named DalasStudios, where he uploaded several short films.[2] The first video of the channel is a speedpainting of Ezio Auditore, from Assassin's Creed, uploaded on February 20th, 2010.

On January 12th, 2011, Dalas uploaded a video response to Youtuber 4jonatica (who uploaded a video attacking the Justin Bieber haters in early 2011) on his channel Neoplatinum, gaining over 600,000 views in the following six years. Due to the success of the video, Dalas created another channel named DalasStudios, where he uploaded the second part of the video and several vlogs, gaining over 36,000 subscribers in the following months.[3] However, due to copyright strikes, he created his current channel DalasReview in June 23rd, 2012, where he would reupload some of his DalasStudios videos.[4] On October 4th, 2011 he also created a gaming channel named WhaTheGame.[8]

Reputation

Dalas has become a polarizing figure in the Spanish-speaking world due to several reasons. His content has been often labeled as clickbait and low quality, and he's also been known for blocking users who criticize him on Twitter. He's also been involved in several feuds with other Youtube personalities (including AuronPlay, Wismichu and Jordi Wild), and has been called out several times for twisting facts to portray himself as the victim in these situations (the most notable example being him attacked by AuronPlay fans and framing him as the one who did it, shown below right).

Another common criticism towards him are his videos towards the subject of feminism and gender, as Dalas has been a huge critic of modern feminists and third wave feminism.[9][18] His opinions have drawn the ire of some feminist sectors, having been assaulted several times at book signings.

Fur Fun Controversy

Fur Fun is a 3D platformer developed by Doky and produced by DalasReview. Originally titled Kewpie-Jazzy on Kickstarter and advertised as a tribute to Rare's video game series Banjo-Kazooie[10], the project failed to get funding on the platform, netting only €656 out of its €92,000 goal, where various people noted how parts of the Kickstarter were blatantly taken from the Kickstarter page of the upcoming Yooka-Laylee. After failing to get funding, Dalas would purchase the project and feature the game on his gaming channel WhaTheGame (shown below), where it was renamed to Fur Fun, and Dalas became its producer.

After the game was published through Steam Early Access, the game received mixed to negative Steam user reviews, gaining only a 42% positive rating.[11] After the game's release, an artist for the game, Adrián González, and the composer, Rasmusic, spoke out claiming neither of them were compensated financially for their involvement in the game.[12] Several other people pointed out various cursory features, such as stolen assets in the game, such as the sprites for coins and ingots ripped from Super Mario World and Minecraft respectively, and music assets taken straight from Banjo-Kazooie (shown below, left)[14], both of which were taken out in a later build in the game, and an ESRB fating of E for everyone and a PEGI rating of 3, both of which were later found out not only to be fraudulent but also unfitting considering the in-game narration. The developers also advertised the involvement of famed video game composer Grant Kirkhope, only to say he was never involved with the project overall (shown below, right)[13], though the game's Twitter account would claim the opposite.[15]

People who made negative reviews of the game were also noted to have their reviews removed and receive bans from the discussion forums for the game and videos speaking negatively about the game were taken down through DMCA claims made by Dalas.[16][17][18][19] This move was heavily criticized by those who made the reviews for being against fair use and also censorship. Several Youtubers made videos regarding the issue, such as SidAlpha and Jim Sterling (shown below).

Personal Life

Dalas Azahar Blanco (born Daniel José Santomé Lemus) was born in Tenerife, Spain on October 31st, 1993, moving years later to Barcelona. He had a romantic relationship with Youtuber María Rubio Sánchez "Miare",[6] breaking up in September 2015 but being revealed to the public in March 2016. Currently he's dating Youtuber Lizy P.[7] His sister Ariana has a Youtube channel dedicated to song covers,[5] with over 600,000 subscribers, and has appeared on several videos from his channel.
