gmcfosho (also known as Gil McRipley Jr., formerly as "gmv") is a satirical rapper on YouTube, known for his low budget music videos and songs.
Online History
His channel was made on April 7, 2007,[1] with his first video uploaded a month later under the name "gmv" (below, left). Before his music videos, he regularly uploaded sketches and songs. His first video under the gmcfosho alias was posted on July 4, 2011 (below, right).
He later blew up to popularity with his music video for "Rifle Burs," posted on July 21, 2011. As of July 2018, the video has gained over 2.5 million views. Since then, he has continued to make more music videos of the same style.
Reputation
gmcfosho is known for his poorly edited music videos and badly written lyrics, gaining a cult following on YouTube with over 133,000 subscribers (as of July 2018). His most popular music video, "IMDABES", has over 6 million views.
The song has been featured on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,[2] and was referenced by popular musicians Ed Sheeran and Childish Gambino.[3]
His "Miss My Ni" music video has also been shared frequently on social media sites, and has garnered more than 4.6 million views.
