About
JelloApocalypse, aka Brendan Blaber, is an American YouTuber and animator best known for his "Welcome to…" and "So This Is Basically…" series and his original web series, Epithet Erased.
History
Brendan Blaber, an American YouTuber based in Chicago,[2] started the JelloApocalypse YouTube channel on September 10th, 2009.[1] His earliest extant video is "Welcome to DeviantArt" which he posted January 8th, 2012, gaining over 3.8 million views in eight years (shown below, left). The video was the first in his first popular series, the "Welcome To…" series, where he satirizes websites in animations. The most popular of these is "Welcome to Tumblr," posted two years later, which gained over 12.9 million views (shown below, right).
"So This Is Basically…" Series
On March 18th, 2016, Blaber released the first episode of his "So This Is Basically…" series, which is similar to the "Welcome to…" series but focuses on media like cartoons and video games as opposed to websites. The first episode saw him poking fun at Steven Universe (shown below, left). His most popular entry in the series is "So This Is Basically The Legend of Zelda," which gained over 10 million views (shown below, right).
Epithet Erased
Epithet Erased is an animated web series created by Blaber which streamed on VRV. It follows a series of characters gifted with an "epithet," or a word inscribed on their soul that grants them special powers. In "Sweet Jazz City" there exists an amulet that can steal other's epithets, making it a highly desirable item for thieves. On November 8th, 2019, VRV premiered the first episode of Epithet Erased. The series premiered on YouTube two weeks later, gaining over 650,000 views (shown below).
Reputation
Ahead of the November 2018 midterm elections, Blaber released a video entitled "Vote," encouraging people to vote. The video also appeared to encourage Trump voters to reconsider their position as headlines from various Trump scandals appeared on screen (reupload shown below).
The video drew criticism from viewers who felt Blaber was pushing liberal bias. Several YouTubers made counter-videos to his video mocking Blaber, including Doctor Dungus (shown below, left) and Just A Robot (shown below, right). The criticism was exacerbated by Blaber saying the 3,000 subscribers he lost as a result of the video were akin to "$3 of revenue" and him later unlisting the video.[3]
Online Presence
JelloApocalypse has gained over 1.67 million subscribers in his ten years on YouTube.[1] On Twitter,[4] he has gained over 26,000 subscribers since joining in September of 2013. His Facebook page[5] has gained over 5,000 likes since launching in November of 2014.
