Sexyy Red is the artistic moniker taken on by rapper Janae Wherry from St. Louis, Missouri. The rapper is known for her sexually explicit lyrics and for her online persona. After Sexyy Red's track "Pound Town" went viral on TikTok in January 2023, her album Hood Hottest Princess, produced by Tay Keith, drew acclaim from music critics.

Online History

Janae Wherry claims to have started rapping sometime before the year 2018, with her first efforts into rapping being a diss track inspired by her boyfriend cheating on her.^[1] Her first single "Ah Thousand Jugs" was released on YouTube^[2] on July 9th, 2018, gathering over 120,000 views in three years (seen below).

On 21st December 2021, Sexyy Red released Ghetto Superstar, an eight track project.^[3]

In January 2021, Sexyy Red's track "Pound Town" began to go viral on TikTok. On January 28th, 2023, she posted an official music video for the track to her YouTube^[4] gathering over 3.4 million views in eight months (seen below, left). A version of the song^[5] featuring Nicki Minaj came out on May 26th, 2023, also gathering over 3.4 million followers in four months (seen below).

Sexyy Red's album Hood Hottest Princess gathered acclaim from many critics, with Pitchfork's^[6] Alphonse Pierre giving the album an 8/10, and the Fader's^[7] Brandon Callender calling the rapper "bold, hilarious, and very much unfiltered," adding;

the line "My coochie pink, my bootyhole brown," where the only possible responses are head-scratching confusion and roaring laughter.
