About

The Action Movie Kid is the nickname of Dreamworks animator Daniel Hashimoto's son James, who stars in videos on his father's YouTube channel featuring a variety of special effects.

History

On February 18th, 2014, Hashimoto launched the "Action Movie Kid" YouTube channel, with his first video featuring his son James seated at a kitchen table and launching a bolt of energy from his hand (shown below, left). The same day, he uploaded a video of his son standing in a living room editing to look like a scene from the 1999 action film The Matrix (shown below, right). In the first two months, the videos gained over 950,000 and 550,000 views respectively.



On February 19th, Hashimoto uploaded a video featuring molten lava surrounding his son playing the "floor is lava" game in a living room, which received more than 1.2 million views and 140 comments in six weeks. (shown below, left). On March 3rd, a video titled "Toy Lightsaber" was uploaded to the Action Movie Kid YouTube channel, in which James wields a lightsaber weapon from the Star Wars franchise while shopping in the toy aisle of a store (shown below, right). In one month, the video garnered upwards of 4.07 million views and 1,000 comments.



Reputation

On March 27th, several news sites published articles about the YouTube channel, including NY Daily News,[1] The Huffington Post,[2] UpRoxx[3] and ABC News.[4] On March 30th, Good Morning America aired a segment about Hashimoto's videos (shown below).
