Wes Anderson is an American screenwriter and filmmaker who directed The Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Moonrise Kingdom, among many other films. Anderson is known for his distinctive style of filmmaking, marked by quirky characters, hand made props and bright colors, which has inspired many parodies and imitations on the web.

Film Career

Anderson wrote and directed his first short film Bottle Rocket in 1994, which was later adapted into a full length feature of the same name in 1996. He went on to direct and write popular comedies such as Rushmore (1998), The Royal Tenebaums (2001), and Moonrise Kingdom. He has been nominated for three Oscars for screenwriting for Moonrise Kingdom, The Royal Tenebaums, and his adapted screenplay for Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009). His latest film, The Grand Budapest Hotel is set to be released on March 7th, 2014.

Online History

On November 9th, 2012, Team Coco (The Conan O'Brian Show) uploaded a video to their YouTube channel that imagined what an audition tape for Star Wars Episode VII would look like if it was directed by Anderson. As of February 2014, the video has over 1.1 million views.

On February 4th, 2010, YouTuber Jeff Loveness[7] uploaded a video to his YouTube channel titled "Wes Anderson Spider-Man" that imagined what the Spider Man franchise would look like if Anderson directed it. As of February 2014, the video has over 4 million views.

On October 26, 2013, an episode of Saturday Night Live aired a sketch titled "The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders." The sketch imagines a horror film directed by Anderson and parodies his soundtrack choices and most frequently casted actors. On October 27th SNL uploaded it to their YouTube channel, and as of February 2014, the video has over 1.5 million views.

Kanye Wes Anderson

On August 26th, 2012, the Tumblr blog kanyewesanderson[1] was created. The Tumblr features screen shots of Wes Anderson films with corresponding Kayne West lyrics overlayed on them. The Tumblr was featured on sites such as Buzzfeed[2], Spin[3], and Paste.[4]

Now don't get me wrong, Wes is up there with Scorsese, Tarantino, and the Coens on my list of favorite filmmakers, but besides the parody videos I don't think there's enough memetic material to warrant an entire page on him alone. I think we should start with a Wes Parodies page and see how it goes from there.
Still super excited for the Grand Budapest Hotel!
