Peter Parker Crying is a reaction image of Tobey Maguire playing Peter Parker in the 2002 film Spider-man during a scene in which his uncle Ben dies. The image of Maguire crying has been used as a reaction image since the early 2000s and was later added to the exploitable J. Jonah Jameson scene from the same film. In 2019, the image was placed next to an edited version in which Maguire is happily crying which spawned captions over the next year.

Origin

On May 3rd, 2002, Spider-man was released and included a scene in which Peter Park watches as his uncle Ben dies (shown below). The earliest known use of the screenshot of Maguire crying was found on Blogspot^[1] in 2010.

Spread

On March 7th, 2014, Tumblr^[6] user DontTrustaHoe uploaded the image of Peter Parker crying with the caption, "Why Did They Shoot The Avengers Without Me" (shown below, left). In 2015, an anonymous Imgflip^[3] user added the reaction image to the end of a scene with J. Jonah Jameson^[2] with added captions (shown below, right). The image garnered over 19,000 views and 73 upvotes in five years.

On June 24th, 2017, YouTuber Your Friendly N. Spidey uploaded a video editing Peter Parker crying into Spider-man's Pizza Time scene (shown below). The video received over 12,800 views in three years.

On February 14th, 2019, Redditor tyrano5 posted Peter Parker crying in reaction to a news headline to r/dankmemes ^[4] and garnered over 7,000 points (95% upvoted) in a year (shown below, left). On April 9th, 2020, Redditor FatTonyBologna posted sad crying Peter Parker next to happy crying Peter Parker to r/dankmemes^[5] and captioned it "When you step on your dogs paw while he's sleeping, but then he wakes up and bites your sister instead (shown below, right). The post accumulated over 18,200 points (97% upvoted) in a day.
