Planet Sheen Posting refers to ironic memes in which people profess their love and admiration for the discontinued Nickelodeon CGI-animated television show Planet Sheen, which is a spin-off of the TV series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius. Jokes made by the Planet Sheen fandom were particularly common on iFunny and Reddit in the early 2020s.

Origin

Planet Sheen first aired on Nickelodeon on October 2, 2010, and finished in February 2013 (opening theme song for the show seen below).[1]



The earliest known meme about ironically liking Planet Sheen was posted to Reddit's[2] /r/dankmemes on October 7th, 2017, by /u/DatPro1102, where it gathered 87 upvotes in six years (seen below).

On July 29th, 2019, an unknown Redditor[3] posted a Planet Sheen meme on the /r/okbuddyretard subreddit, gathering over 1,000 upvotes in four years (seen below, left). On July 2nd, 2021, Redditor[4] /u/swaxeberserker96 posted a meme about Planet Sheen that gathered over 7,000 likes in three years (seen below, right).

Ever wonder why this show even got made? Like why make a Jimmy Neutron spinoff over four years after the show got cancelled and the kids watching now would either not know or barely remember who Sheen is?

Because Planet Sheen was meant to be an original sci-fi comedy about a dumb fast food worker who ends up on a planet inhabited by hillbilly aliens, who think he's a genius. Nick didn't want to make a show about adults, and insisted on making it a Jimmy Neutron spin-off with Sheen as the lead.

The creators also wanted to turn it into an action/sci-fi/comedy show about Sheen being caught in an alien civil war between a monarchy and a rebellion and begins acting as a double agent for both sides. Mainly because they were still bummed over not getting to do the darker fourth season of Jimmy Neutron they wanted to make. This got the axe because Nick felt it would be too similar to Avatar (the movie, which was still fresh in peoples' minds at the time)

Also, the alien who sounds, looks and acts like Carl? Was originally meant to just be Carl. Nick for whatever reason decided that they only wanted Sheen to be on the alien planet, despite the fact that a majority of the first season had already been written with Carl in the scripts, so they had to hastily rewrite it to replace him with an alien facsimile.

This show is a huge example of why aspiring cartoon writers/creators shouldn't even consider working for Nick.
