"Hey Jimmy, wanna see a frog?" is a popular quote spoke by Carl Wheezer that is asked to Jimmy Neutron from the Nickelodeon movie The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Since it's inception, the phrase has been used in video memes to showcase a wide variety of Bait-and-Switch jokes.

Origin

On December 21st, 2001, the Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius movie was released. In the movie, there is a scene in which the characters are at school during show-and-tell, in which they are supposed to be paying attention as one class member presents an item from home. During this time, Carl whispers over to Jimmy and shows him a picture he made of a frog, with Jimmy remarking that he liked it. On March 2nd, 2018, one of the earliest re-uploads of this scene was posted to YouTube by the channel FlameTomato^[1] (shown below).

Spread

Starting in 2019, the snippet from the movie started to get used online as a meme. On July 20th, 2019, the YouTube creator FennicDoodles^[2] uploaded their own Redraw of the scene, with their own characters showing off a concept design and using the original scene audio as the background (shown below).

Following this, in 2020 the scene started to receive edits with different things being shown instead of the original frog drawn by Carl. Other edits made in early 2020 included adding onto the scene, with additional material being made for the response by Jimmy after Carl asks him what he was busy drawing. This is best seen in May 13th, 2020 upload by YouTuber yvesisonline^[3] in which Jimmy is drawing Saturn Devouring His Son and being introspective (shown below).
