About

Pokemon Stats Make No Sense refers to a series of YouTube videos where the stats of pairs of Pokemon are compared to each other, highlighting stat differences that make no sense, such as a weaker-looking Pokemon having more strength than a stronger-looking Pokemon. The first video like this was posted to YouTube in March 2022 and became increasingly popularized over the following months.

Origin

On March 23rd, 2022, YouTuber[1] Pokemon Comparisons posted a video showing a scrolling list of stat comparisons between pairs of Pokemon, highlighting stat differences that make no sense (shown below). The video gained over 3,700 views in five months.

On July 20th, YouTuber[2] Joereo posted a video titled, "Pokemon stats make no FU- sense" where he similarly compares like stats of various pairs of Pokemon that make no sense in comparison to one another but in a more meme-like format (shown below). For example, the first pair compares Mew's attack to Krabby's, showing how Mew has less attack power than Krabby. The second comparison shows Latios, a legendary Pokemon's, speed (110) compared to Purugly, a large cat Pokemon's, speed (112). The video gained over 668,000 views in three weeks.

Spread

On July 26th, 2022, the same YouTuber[3] posted a second part of the series, gaining over 880,000 views in two weeks (shown below).

On July 30th, YouTuber[4] KB Pokemon posted a video following the format, gaining over 259,000 views in a week (shown below, left). On July 31st, YouTuber[5] LilyAC posted a video following the format, gaining over 40,000 views in a week (shown below, right).
