Popeye's and Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich Feud refers to an online debate between fans of the fried chicken sandwiches sold at the fast-food restaurants Popeye's and Chick-fil-A. Additionally, official social media accounts of the restaurants have also joined the argument.
Origin
On August 12th, 2019, the official Popeye's Twitter [1] account tweeted a photograph of their new chicken sandwich. They wrote, "Chicken. Brioche. Pickles. New. Sandwich. Popeyes. Nationwide. So. Good. Forgot. How. Speak. In. Complete. Sandwiches. I mean, sentences." The tweet received more than 24,000 likes and 4,000 retweets in about one week (shown below, left).
One week later, on August 19th, the fast-food restaurant Chick-fil-A tweeted,[2] "Bun + Chicken + Pickles = all the ❤️ for the original." Within 24 hours, the tweet received more than 16,000 likes and 2,000 retweets (shown below, right).
That day, Popeye's retweeted and replied to Chick-fil-A's tweet.[3] They wrote, "… y’all good?" The tweet received more than 280,000 likes and 78,000 retweets in 24 hours (shown below).

Following the tweets, people began to joke about Chick-fil-A's response to Popeye's sandwich (examples below).
Several media outlets covered the debate, including Eater,[4] Thrillist,[5] Fox News, [6] USA Today[7] and more. On August 19th, Twitter[8] published a Moments page on the debate, as well.
On August 27th, Popeyes sold out of their chicken sandwiches according to their Twitter account (shown below). The tweet gained over 89,300 likes and 24,500 retweets in two months.

Popeyes Chicken Sandwich Returns
On October 28th, 2019, Popeyes chicken announced on Twitter that their sandwich would be back on November 3rd (shown below). The tweet accumulated over 56,200 likes and 22,300 retweets in a day. The video featured a Popeyes sign that reads "Open Sunday" next to Chick Fil-A's sign that reads "Closed Sunday."

On October 28th, Twitter user @TaReefKnockOut[9] commented on the video by tweeting a screenshot of the video and calling Popeyes petty (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 7,900 likes and 1,900 shares in a day. Twitter user @CuffsTheLegend[10] tweeted "Popeyes still taking shots at Chick-Fil-A like they didn’t run outta sandwiches for almost 4 months" (shown below, right). The tweet garnered over 3,600 likes and 830 retweets in a day.
