Projecting My Period Cramps refers to a series of redraws based on an illustration of a unique character projecting period cramps onto Vegeta. The drawing was posted on X, formerly Twitter, by artist @CathChicken in May 2024, but gained in early October 2024, in which artists replaced the drawings with other individuals either giving or receiving the cramps, mostly related to psych-power characters.
Origin
On June 10th, 2023, X[4] user @wifeclipse posted the earliest known version of the "projecting my period cramps" drawing trend with an illustration of the artist giving Miguel O'Hara stomach cramps with her mind. The post (seen below) amassed over 4.5 million views and 55,000 likes in two years.
Spread
The drawing gained viral attention a few years later on X in 2024, inspiring other artists to redraw the characters. For instance, on May 13th, 2024, X[1] artist @CathChicken uploaded a drawing of a character designed by her mentally projecting her cramps to the Dragon Ball character Vegeta, who's lying on the floor in pain. The illustration (seen below) amassed over 4 million views and 50,000 likes in six months.
On October 6th, 2024, X[2] artist @Padawan_Carol posted a version of the drawing featuring the X-Men character "Emma projecting her period cramps onto Scott." The post (seen below) received roughly 29,000 likes and 2,900 reposts in three days.
On October 8th, X[3] artist @HeyItsGat0w uploaded a version of the illustration featuring the Fate/Stay Night character Rin "projecting her period cramps onto Kirei," which amassed more than 2,500 likes and 545 reposts in a day.
