About

Reacting To Me Lying is the title of a 2019 YouTube video by Amberlynn Reid in which she reacts to a video compilation of herself purportedly "lying for four minutes straight." Following the video's release, a screenshot of the YouTube page with its thumbnail was popularized as a reaction image, which is typically posted under content as a caption meme in which someone is perceived to be lying to themselves or their intended audience.

Origin

On August 10th, 2019, YouTuber[1] Amberlynn Reid posted a video titled "reacting to me lying…." in which she watches a compilation video of herself allegedly "lying for four minutes straight" and reacts to it, garnering over 242,000 views in five years.



On June 28th, 2020, X[2] user @pajamanim posted a screenshot of the video's thumbnail and title in response to an unknown, now-deleted post by X user @adultbangtan, garnering around 50 likes in four years. This is the earliest known use of the meme.

The meme became increasingly popularized over the following years, often as a reaction image to posts in which the poster appears to be lying or as an image macro format alongside jokes about lying.

For example, on January 1st, 2023, the meme was posted to the subreddit /r/Bayonetta[3] under a post titled, "Me after I say Bayonetta 2 is the best game after 1 even though I haven't played 2 in months because of its combat," garnering over 300 upvotes in a year. On March 8th, it was posted to /r/xqcow[4] in a post reading, "xQc anytime he says anything about going live/IRL stuff," garnering over 650 upvotes in a year.

On October 16th, 2024, the day of One Direction member Liam Payne's death, X[5] user @ROBCRAVEE posted the meme in response to a 2011 post by One Direction band member Liam Payne reading, "I'm not dead guys love you xxxx," garnering over 110,000 likes in a day.
