"Reality Can Be Whatever I Want" is a memorable quote from 2018 Marvel superhero film Avengers: Infinity War said by character Thanos. Online, the still image paired with the quote has been used as a macro and a reaction, often in reference to double standards.

Origin

On April 27th, 2018, Marvel superhero film Avengers: Infinity War premiered in the United States.[1] In one scene of the film, character Thanos, portrayed by Josh Brolin, reveals that he can alter reality.



Reality is often disappointing. That is, it was. Now, reality can be whatever I want.

Spread

On December 2nd, 2018, Redditor And_Morgoth posted the first known meme based on the scene, with the post gaining over 13,200 upvotes in six months (shown below, left).[2] On December 9th, 2019, Redditor to_pimp_a_butter_fly posted another meme based on the image to /r/dankmemes subreddit, where it gained over 20,200 upvotes in six months (shown below, right).[3]
