Riddle of the Rocks refers to a series of posts and videos contributing to the Surreal Memes universe. The series is a loosely chronological saga involving common Surreal Memes characters like Meme Man and Mr. Orange, following their saga to obtain the "octahedron of transcendence" but must first solve the "Riddle of the Rocks." Ultimately, Mr. Orange betrays Meme Man, leading to an epic showdown in a lengthy video conclusion that featured multiple collaborators known for creating surreal memes.

Origin

On September 27th, 2017, Redditor Prdalo[1] posted a lengthy comic detailing "Riddle of the Rocks" to /r/surrealmemes, gaining over 9,000 points (example panels shown below).

On October 2nd, 2017, YouTuber Bagel Boy posted an animation of the comic, gaining over 1.2 million views (shown below, top left). Following that post, YouTuber Timotainment created two videos meant to be prequels to Riddle of the Rocks, gaining over 188,000 and 204,000 views, respectively (shown below, top right and bottom left). On July 22nd, 2018, Bagel Boy posted a massive, 21-minute sequel to Riddle of the Rocks, gaining over 300,000 views (shown below, bottom right). The series was a collaboration between multiple surreal meme video producers, including Timotainment.



The series has also spawned tributes and unofficial contributions to the lore. For example, YouTuber PoseidonHeir posted an unofficial sequel to the original Riddle of the Rocks on February 3rd, 2018, gaining over 45,000 views (shown below, left). They posted another February 10th that gained over 14,000 views (shown below, right).



The End: Coda of the Cosmos

On May 5th, 2020, Bagel Boy uploaded a video called "a surreal trailer", announcing "Coda of the Cosmos", the grand finale of the Surreal Memes saga. The final part would premiere on July 17th, 2020.
