Sad Shahid Kapoor, also known as Shahid Kapoor On The Bus, is a frame from the 2007 Bollywood movie Jab We Met, where protagonist Aditya Kashyap (played by Shahid Kapoor) can be seen looking sad and depressed while riding the bus. The image is a popular reaction meme in India.

Origin

On October 26th, 2007, the Bollywood movie Jab We Met was released. The movie starred actors Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor who played the roles of Aditya Kashyap and Geet Dhillon respectively. Aditya (played by Shahid) is shown to be sad and depressed while riding the bus in a scene in the movie (seen below).^[1]

Various stills and screen captures from the film went into circulation on social media soon after the release of the popular film, including the shot of Shahid Kapoor looking sad on the bus. An example of the scene being used in a meme was a February 16th, 2021 post by Twitter^[2] page @bollywoodmemers, where it gathered over 670 likes in two years (seen below).

On November 9th, 2021, Twitter^[3] user @ThisIsOshaz posted the image of Shahid Kapoor on the bus with a caption that read, "When you raise your family’s expectations with your primary school grades, but you grow up to be a failure," gathering over 3,000 likes in two years (seen below, left). On November 14th, 2021, Twitter^[4] user @aysan_says posted the meme with a caption that read, "This is how Asians are watching #T20WorldCupFinal." The tweet gathered over 300 likes in two years (seen below, right).

On December 10th, 2021, Twitter^[5] user @FanOfBilalKhan posted a tweet using the image. The tweet had a caption that read, "Do my friends consider me their friend?" and gathered over 400 likes in two years (seen below, left). On January 1st, 2022, Twitter^[6] user @relatewithfiza posted the earliest known version of the meme to be edited to make Kapoor smile, gathering over 100 likes in a year (seen below, right).
