Sam Smith's Inflatable Black Latex BRIT Awards Outfit, also known as Sam Smith's Inflatable Suit, refers to a black inflatable latex suit made by fashion designer Harri and worn by musical artist Sam Smith at the 43rd edition of the BRIT Awards in February 2023. The outfit was subject to jokes, memes and Photoshop edits following the award ceremony due to its unconventional and outlandish design. Although many online liked the outfit, others were also critical of it.

On February 11th, 2023, U.K. artist Sam Smith attended the 2023 BRIT Awards in which they were nominated for two awards.[1] When they arrived at the event and stepped onto the red carpet, Smith was wearing an inflatable, black, latex outfit made by the designer Harri.[1] Multiple paparazzi photos were taken of Smith on the night of (shown below).
On February 11th, 2023, the official Twitter[2] account of the BRIT Awards posted a video of Sam Smith walking in the black, inflatable outfit, earning roughly 12.8 million views and 11,500 likes in two days (shown below).

Within the hour of the Twitter video posted by the BRIT Awards on February 11th, 2023, multiple meme creators on Twitter started captioning the video, going viral in their own right. For instance, on February 11th, Twitter[3] user @MediumSizeMeech captioned it, "Do you ever feel, like a plastic bag," in reference to Katy Perry's song "Firework," earning roughly 8,000 likes in two days (shown below, top). Around the same time on February 11th, Twitter[4] user @evadentz captioned it, "the bird on the albanian flag getting ready to pose," earning roughly 6,900 likes in two days.

Other memes surfaced on February 11th, 2023, like one tweet from Twitter[5] user @ItsAndyRyan who related Smith's outfit to a David Bowie outfit, earning roughly 49,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). On February 11th, Redditor DadIsMadAtMe posted a GIF of Smith walking in the outfit to /r/memes[6] with the caption, "When your mom lets you pick out your outfit on the first day of school," earning roughly 75,600 upvotes in two days (shown below, right).
Criticism and Controversy
After the videos and photos of Sam Smith in their BRIT Awards outfit landed on social media, Smith was criticized for the fashion choice by anti-woke internet users and pages, such as a tweet from the Twitter[7] account @EndWokeness on February 11th, 2023, who compared Smith's outfit to a family praying over dinner with text reading, "Normal person: / Extremists:" The tweet received roughly 68,700 likes in two days (shown below, left). Although many agreed with @EndWokeness' sentiment, others were critical of @EndWokeness' tweet, such as Twitter[8] user @Sturgeons_Law who quote retweeted it, writing, "Celebs wearing weird fashion to red carpet events is now woke extremism," earning roughly 1,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).
