School During The Coronavirus Lockdown, also known as School During The Coronavirus Quarantine, refers to a series of memes used to describe the move to online classes and courses during the 2019-2020 coronavirus outbreak. The theme was primarily seen on Reddit, Facebook and Twitter, but was widespread around the internet on sites and social platforms in March 2020 as schools shut down in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Origin
The first meme to use the theme is unknown, but users online began making memes about online classes or courses as early as March 2020, when schools closed en masse during the outbreak. One such example was posted on March 12th, 2020, by Redditor[1] eelmor1138 to the r/PrequelMemes sub. The upload (shown below) received over 1,300 upvotes.
Spread
The theme continued to spread as users from Twitter also began creating memes referencing school closures. On March 16th, 2020, Twitter[2] user Newtons Thug uploaded a meme (seen below) about online classes and received 116 likes and 11 retweets.

The theme began picking up steam on Reddit in mid-March, particularly on the r/memes and r/dankmemes subreddits. One example of this was uploaded on March 12th, 2020, to r/dankmemes by Redditor[3] theholybork. The post (seen below) received nearly 40,000 upvotes and 100 comments.
On March 12th, 2020, Twitter[4] user Anime Destroyed Me posted a reaction GIF under the caption “Coronavirus caused classes to be online, can now officially say I FaceTimed with a female, cya virgins.” The meme (shown below) was liked 623 times and retweeted 136 times.

Redditor[5] TomMcWeedy posted another version of the theme on March 17th, 2020, depicting a teacher being tricked into pressing “ALT+F4” by students in an online class. The post (shown below) was upvoted over 55,000 times and given multiple Reddit awards.
On Facebook, the page The Witcher Memes uploaded another variant depicting the meme Geralt’s Fuck with a photoshopped facemask. The post (seen below) was liked nearly 7,000 times and shared over 1,000 times.
