Scotchland Renaming refers to a social game which started on Twitter in response to the naming of NHS Louisa Jordan Hospital, an emergency hospital set up in response to the 2019-20 Coronavirus Pandemic.

NHS Louisa Jordan naming controversy

In response to the 2019-20 Coronavirus Pandemic, the United Kingdom government set up emergency hospitals across some of the largest cities in England including London, Manchester and Birmingham.

The emergency hospitals operated by NHS England were entitled "NHS Nightingale", in honour of British nurse Florence Nightingale.

In Scotland, the Scottish Government set up plans to remodel the SEC Centre in Glasgow into an emergency hospital.

The emergency hospital operated by NHS Scotland at the SEC in Glasgow was announced to be called "NHS Louisa Jordan", named after Louisa Jordan, a Scottish nurse who served during the First World War, treating and saving patients in Serbia from Tythis, a disease which she later succumbed to.

In response to the naming, a lot of Scottish unionist supporters started attacking the Scottish Government and started calling the new emergency hospital, "Nightingale Glasgow" in protest and used a picture of a presentation plan entitled "SEC Nightingale Project"

Both "NHS Louisa Jordan" and "Nightingale Glasgow" trended on Twitter in Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom.

Scotchland Renaming

Twitter user Colin Dunn tweeted that in response to unionists who protested and called the new emergency hospital, "NHS Nightingale Glasgow", he humourlesly tweeted that Edinburgh Castle should be renamed to Edward 1 Castle with the hashtag #SchotlandRenaming at the end (see below).
