Seconds Without Zaza / Minutes Without Zaza / Days Without Zaza, also known as Seconds No Zaza / Minutes No Zaza / Days No Zaza, refers to a catchphrase used in a series of memes prevalent on TikTok that portray physical discomfort caused by the lack of smoking weed, also known as "zaza." Over time, the periods "without zaza" notably became increasingly abstract, ranging from days to milliseconds.

Origin

On August 23rd, 2022, Twitter^[1] user FrenchieHugo tweeted, "Me when no zaza," as the caption of an image of Emperor Calus from Destiny 2. The tweet received over 500 likes in five months (shown below, left). On November 20th, Twitter^[2] user horribleimp tweeted, "day 3 no zaza," with an image portraying enlightenment. The tweet received over 80 likes in two months (shown below, right).

Memes with similar captions started surfacing on TikTok soon after. On December 18th, 2022, TikToker^[3] jonathanrosado815 posted a video from Dead Space with text overlay reading, "2 minutes without Zaza," earning roughly 5,100 plays in one month (shown below, left). On December 26th, TikToker^[4] nolsinthealpabet posted an almost identical video that earned more engagement, receiving roughly 79,600 plays and 3,600 likes in one month (shown below, right).

Spread

Going into early 2023, more "no zaza" and "without zaza" memes surfaced on TikTok and elsewhere. For instance, on December 29th, 2022, TikToker^[5] professional_rizzler posted a video of a man appearing crazy in a mini-mart with the text reading, "Me 10 seconds without the zaza." The video received roughly 323,400 plays and 39,500 likes in one month (shown below, left). On January 6th, 2023, TikToker^[6] you_gonne_behave posted a video of a professional, British gurner with text reading, "5 days no zaza." The video received roughly 1.1 million plays and 106,300 likes in three weeks (shown below, right).
