Celebs on Sandwiches, also known as @celebsonsandwiches, refers to an Instagram page of an artist that draws celebrities on top of their favorite sandwiches. The page also references TV characters, movie characters, memes and other pop culture references. They started posting content in 2015 but became more notable in 2016 and 2022.

Origin

On August 16th, 2015, celebsonsandwiches made its first Instagram[1] post, being a drawing of stand-up comedian Amy Schumer on top a turkey and avocado sandwich. Over the course of seven years, the post received roughly 2,900 likes (shown below).

Spread

The page continued to post content going into 2017, when in that year, they received a boost in engagement. This followed a post[2] made on November 16th that was of former U.S. President Barack Obama on top a tuna melt. Over the course of six years, the post earned roughly 14,200 likes (shown below, left).

In 2017, the page started referencing meme culture. For instance, on February 24th of that year, they posted[3] Salt Bae on a steak sandwich, earning roughly 8,300 likes in five years (shown below, right).

On October 7th, 2020, the page uploaded its most-liked post[4] to date, being of a fly on a piece of bread in reference to the Mike Pence Fly. The post earned roughly 64,000 likes in two years (shown below, left). On January 21st, 2021, the page posted[5] U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders at Joe Biden's Inauguration wearing his mittens, earning roughly 46,500 likes in one year for depicting him sitting on a grilled cheese (shown below, right).

The page contained to reference memes in its drawings going into 2022 like Blue's Clues Steve Video. [6] It also referenced TV show's like Squid Game. [7] On April 15th, 2022, they made a post[8] of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on top of a chicken kyiv sandwich, earning roughly 3,400 likes in one day (shown below).
