Tom the Warlord

In the simulations something would come up quite frequently. Third Party Stand Alone Actors. Or as /k/ would instantly recognize them for what they are, warlords. In the simulations (which were state of the art, and I can't go into it, but I can see where some of that US tax money went) Warlords would pop up fairly fast. They actually caused more problems than the rebels would, and several key battles and problem sets were handled by who and how they handled the warlords. Here is what happened once. Warlord, lets call him Tom, Warlord Tom would pick up a city in a key choke point. The time in question he actually picked up in my home town, which was funny as f---. So Tom sets up in the town of St. Charles. He and his buddies have taken over the police department and stolen all the weapons, over threw the City Council, and most importantly- Cut the nation in m------------ half by cutting off 170 164. Tom was a former police employee and has expelled half the population of St. Charles and has set up gun points across the river. Now what made this really bad besides cutting off transportation in the country by blowing the bridges, is that he was within driving distance to a nuclear power plant and a key power grid node. The Rebels hated Tom because not only did he f------ take our strategy, but he cut off the rebels main safe route into the east. We had to go through f------ memphis to get to Saint Louis. Which we were trying to change into a rebel city. The Government hated Tom because he robbed them every chance he got. Even when he didn't need supplies or goods, he raided the government just to raid the government. You think we would like this, but this guy would cause the rebels to look bad because Tom had decided to create f------ Cascadia in a small town and expelled a ton of the population. This created a s--- ton of unrest and made St. Louis look even more like a third world country. Eventually Tom was taken out via a drone strike- but he changed the war by making ground transportation in the US a nightmare. >>211587 >>211601 The background on "Tom" not his real name. Because he had a bio. This bio is basically why he is so f------ scary. 1. Ex- Army Sapper, graduated from UIUC with a civil engineering degree. 2. Got out of the military due to medical discharge,, his left arm was a prosthesis (we often joked that was a robot arm because it would be technologically viable at the time) and was considered a good soldier. 3. Tom was a trucker. While this doesn't seem important in the game it was. 4. Tom was a 6'1 white male of 35 years old and at 220 pounds. He had minor medical issues. 5. Tom had lots of redneck hunting buddies, and part of his cadre was a gunsmith. The Gunsmith was also a HVT later because he armed rebels with stupid anti tank and anti MRAP guns, along with anti drone tech. Toms friends were all as bad as Tom, and as soon as Tom died- s--- got worse because nobody had control over them. 6. Tom's region (Which according to the overall game scheme was 'red team controlled".) was Eastern Missouri, Western Illinois, Memphis and north east arkansas. his sphere of influence was most of the f------ midwest. 7. Tom, the sneaky f------ bastard, had a dead man switch will. When he died, key intelligence from one of his friends was given to international press. This sped up the third war game. It also almost caused a third world war. 8. A key part of the game was "civilian morale" stupid s--- would happen if it got too low or too high. Civilians under Tom always had really high morale. We also have no idea how he got the crime rate for Saint Louis and East Saint louis down to levels one would see in Alexandria Virginia. Tom could never hold down a job for some reason. It never really went into it in the reports, but he had a ton of jobs after getting discharged. 10. Tom was the most successful warlord. There were some who gained more ground, and some who lasted longer, but nobody f----- with us as much as Tom. Nobody was as big a pain in the ass. 11. You know how I said he got the crime rated down? That was after he caused an expulsion of a large part of the population. The Crime rate went up, Saint Louis made Russia look like a nice place, then about two months later (in game time) Saint Louis was nice. 12. Tom died in a blaze of glory when his dump truc carrying HME (note it was full) was hit by a drone strike. It vaporized a whole city block according to the report. 13. Looking through Tom's background (i was the only one who cared because he was running the portion of the country that was mine god damn it!) A lot of the stuff about him seems like something any normal streloc/k/ would do in the situation. He was able to get c4 through his buddy at cabelas, he got rifles from his gunsmith buddies, he already had food and supplies and he helped his community. When he was not in SHTF mode he was just normal person who was well liked by the city. Just some average vet who happened to be into survivalist stuff. 14. After the war, many of tom's friends became politicians in the new order. They had a memorial set up to him in the middle of f------ saint louis. And he was a f------ warlord. This also happened in the second game with certain ones, but apparently he had a certain popularity that this got noted in the end result of the game. >>211920 >>211595 The answer to the US and jungle warfare is yes. We have been to different jungles since veitnam strelock, and the special forces go down there all the time. They would probably train up the regular troops in this scenario. I haven't touched it at all since i'm not really familiar with any guns besides a revolver i was handed when i went to college "in case someone breaks in". my camera battery is charging right now, so i'll take some pics, but i was hoping for any advice on it or what to do with it and how to unload and safety it it has the hammer cocked, and i think the safety is on, but i'm not touching it without some more confidence about it. pic unrelated, i just like persona 3 a lot. posted it in a thread i was reading hoping to help figure out some of his guns. It's not that they can't afford them, or use them, it's maintanence that is always the f------ problem. African warfare is a lot like theoreticians predicted warfare would be like before WWI, and we saw Europe was capable of industrialized warfare. Basically, you deploy your tanks and what not, they get shot to s---, and you have no hope of rebuilding your forces by the time the war is over. This is what happens to Zimbabwe in the Second Congo War. Zimbabwe actually inherited a well equipped army and airforce from Rhodesia. They decided to deploy these in the Second Congo war against Rwanda, in the hopes of being able to get access to mining contracts after the war and cockblock the South Africans (told you the multiple faction thing is great) There were actually tank battles in Katanga, which is not what most people picture when they invision African warfare, but there you go. The problem was that after about a year of this, Zimbabwe's bomber fleet needed maintanence, and all their tanks and armored cars had been shot to s---, and the Katanga front was now basically artillery duels. Zimbabwe called it quits (especially since the DROC was courting South African investment anyway) and left. They still haven't replaced their tanks and aircraft and have become militarily irrelevant. So Paratroopers are great because they don't suffer from this. One base with a paratrooper brigade can assure military dominance over a larger area than an infantry division. Because the infantry division will take days or weeks to cross jungles, mountain ranges, etc. This ability to quickly deploy is also a huge advantage with that attrition rate thing. Paratroopers have the capacity to end conflicts way quicker than conventional forces, and in doing so, preserve those conventional forces. The idea of quick, lightning strikes is especially tempting to African states. Another factor is the espirit de corps. There's something about jumping out of planes that tends to mean paratroopers have huge brass balls, and don't care about anyone else. Which is great, because that means they tend to be resistant to the factionalism that plagues other African military units. You tend to get the highest level of professionalism out of them. And then lastly, there's the foreign connection. Two parts to this: Foreign militaries love training paratroopers for their African clients. They're cheap to train. You want to train an armored brigade, you're going to need loads of tanks, fuel specialized ammo, and yeah, most importantly tanks, just for TRAINING. Training them doesnt really solve the problems that the militaries already have. If you train paratroopers though, most of the problem is in training. It's an intensive skillset, but again, light on equipment. So the training you can offer actually matters. The other thing is, paratroopers are the only things African troops really need to fear from the west. They know no western state is going to deploy an amphibious assault on their countries. Hell, some of them are landlocked. But an airborne assault is quick and politically cheap for western powers. They decided to deploy these in the Second Congo war against Rwanda, in the hopes of being able to get access to mining contracts after the war and cockblock the South Africans (told you the multiple faction thing is great) There were actually tank battles in Katanga, which is not what most people picture when they invision African warfare, but there you go. The problem was that after about a year of this, Zimbabwe's bomber fleet needed maintanence, and all their tanks and armored cars had been shot to s---, and the Katanga front was now basically artillery duels. Zimbabwe called it quits (especially since the DROC was courting South African investment anyway) and left. They still haven't replaced their tanks and aircraft and have become militarily irrelevant. So Paratroopers are great because they don't suffer from this. One base with a paratrooper brigade can assure military dominance over a larger area than an infantry division. Because the infantry division will take days or weeks to cross jungles, mountain ranges, etc. This ability to quickly deploy is also a huge advantage with that attrition rate thing. Paratroopers have the capacity to end conflicts way quicker than conventional forces, and in doing so, preserve those conventional forces. The idea of quick, lightning strikes is especially tempting to African states. Another factor is the espirit de corps. There's something about jumping out of planes that tends to mean paratroopers have huge brass balls, and don't care about anyone else. Which is great, because that means they tend to be resistant to the factionalism that plagues other African military units. You tend to get the highest level of professionalism out of them. And then lastly, there's the foreign connection. Two parts to this: Foreign militaries love training paratroopers for their African clients. They're cheap to train. You want to train an armored brigade, you're going to need loads of tanks, fuel specialized ammo, and yeah, most importantly tanks, just for TRAINING. Training them doesnt really solve the problems that the militaries already have. If you train paratroopers though, most of the problem is in training. It's an intensive skillset, but again, light on equipment. So the training you can offer actually matters. The other thing is, paratroopers are the only things African troops really need to fear from the west. They know no western state is going to deploy an amphibious assault on their countries. Hell, some of them are landlocked. But an airborne assault is quick and politically cheap for western powers. So they're very conscious of the threat of them. They're massively adaptable to the environment, they're 'hard' units rather than vulnerable, and they achieve all of this by being professional, rather than being expensive. Every African state wants paratroopers, and every African military unit wants to pretend it's paratroopers. I suspect as African states get their s--- together, we'll see some cool f------ airborne operations from them in the future.
