Mixy is an iOS app that allows users to make mashups of any two uploaded songs that includes AI tools to isolate certain parts of the songs, such as vocals and specific instruments, to allow for more in-depth mashups. A beta version of the app, created by Joe Kennedy, was released in April 2025, resulting in people creating and sharing their mashups online to sites including TikTok and X / Twitter. The full version of the app is set to release to the public on May 20th, 2025.

History

Development

On February 12th, 2025, TikToker^[1] @mixyjoe, aka Joe Kennedy, the creator of Mixy, posted a video in which he shows off an early version of the app by mashing up "Not Like Us" by Kendrick Lamar and "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift, garnering over 360 views in three months. This is the earliest known video to showcase the app.

The creator continued to advertise the app on TikTok^[2] over the following months, often through videos that explain its features and mashup various since. His most popular advertisement was uploaded on April 7th, in which he shares a mashup of "Club Classics" and "NOSTYLIST," garnering over 42,000 views in a month.

Beta Release

On April 18th, 2025, TikToker^[3] @mixyjoe posted a video sharing a now-broken QR code allowing access to the Mixy beta, garnering over 20,000 views in a month. The beta app was purportedly only made available to 10,000 users total.

Apple Music Integration Problem

On April 29th, 2025, TiKToker^[4] @mixyjoe posted a video offering an update on the app. In the video, he claims that Apple keeps rejecting the release of the app because it allows users to take songs off of Apple Music to mashup. He announces that he had to remove this feature and replace it with the ability for users to upload their own songs to the app. The video gained over 15,000 views in two weeks.

Online Presence

The Mixy app began to spread online throughout May 2025 as users began uploading their mashup results. For example, on May 3rd, 2025, TikToker^[5] @boyygasm posted a video mashing up "Moonlight" by XXXTentacion and "Vyzee" by SOPHIE, garnering over 63,000 views in a week.

On May 11th, X^[6] user @MonaGrande_ posted a video of a mashup of "Say So" by Doja Cat and "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter, writing, "This app is so fun," garnering over 74,000 likes and 3,600 reposts in a day. The post inspired other X users to share their mashups in the comments.

Later that day, X^[7] user @rhodebutera posted a mashup of "Anxiety" by Doechii and "Dance Monkey" by Tones and I, writing, "THIS IS SO GOOD-," garnering over 2,400 likes in a day.

That same day, X^[8] user @TELCELCITY posted a mashup of "La Vaginoplastia" by Zoe Saldana and "Drums of Death" by FKA Twigs, garnering over 6,500 likes in a day. On May 12th, X^[9] user @joekndy, the creator of the app, posted, "Getting 1k users every 15 minutes. TestFlight broke. Launching soon," garnering over 1,400 likes in under a day.
