About

"Psychosocial" is a song by American metal group Slipknot and is the second single off their album All Hope Is Gone. After becoming one of the group's more popular singles, it appeared online in numerous remixes where the song was mashed up with a more innocuous song for humorous effect.

Origin

"Psychosocial" was released as a single on June 7th, 2008[2] ahead of the Slipknot album All Hope Is Gone, which was released on August 20th, 2008.[1] The song's music video premiered on MTV's FNMTV show on July 18th, 2008. On October 29th, 2009, the video was uploaded to YouYube, where it has since gained over 179 million views (shown below).

Spread

"Psychosocial" was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 51st Grammy Awards. It was also included in the soundtrack for Punisher: War Zone. On March 19th, 2011, YouTuber Isonine uploaded a remix of "Psychosocial" with the song "Baby" by Justin Bieber titled "Psychosocial Baby." The video gained over 17 million views before being blocked on copyright grounds.[3] Another upload was posted on the 25th by bullet4sum which gained 1.6 million views (shown below).

This was the first of several remixes which used the song in a humorous fashion. Several other remixes have appeared on YouTube in more traditional styles, including dubstep and 8-bit remixes.[4] On January 29th, 2012, YouTuber Bruno Veland Beck mashed the song up with Maroon 5's "Moves Like Jagger," gaining over 74,000 views (shown below, left). On September 4th, YouTuber Maggot to Slipknot uploaded a video of Slipknot singer Corey Taylor reacting to to "Psychosocial Baby" that gained over 2.2 million views (shown below right).
