About

ResetEra is an internet forum that was founded by former NeoGAF users as a result the latter's prohibition of political discussions following a sexual harassment scandal centered around the site's owner Tyler Malka.

History

On October 24th, 2017, NeoGAF owner Tyler Malka posted on the site that off-topic political discussions would be banned from the site after being accused of sexual harassment scandal by film director Ima Leupp.[1][2] NeoGAF moderators who had left the site after the allegations broke launched ResetEra the same day.[3] The site initially was concerned with troll campaigns from groups coming /r/KotakuInAction and 4chan, as NeoGAF had developed a reputation for being a site with progressive left-wing politics and were thus unpopular in those groups. Polygon confirmed that 4chan users were posting about raiding ResetEra at its launch. As of July 19th, 2019, the site has 47,034 members.[4]

Reputation

ResetEra has been mocked by various hubs online for what they see as catering to SJWs with oppressive and sometimes contradictory banning policies. Encyclopedia Dramatica described the site as "NeoGAF's twin, with all the pedophilia, rampant f*gg*try, insufferable social justice whining, and mods who drop the banhammer more often than Snacks ever did."[5] The site is often criticized by sites like OneAngryGamer for its presence in stories relating video games to social causes.[6]
