ShindanMaker is a site that allows its users to create or take comical diagnosis/horoscopes based randomly on the name they input on the site. The name of the site is based on the word "Shindan" (診断) that in Japanese means diagnosis and it was released in early 2010.[1]

History

ShindanMaker's website (http://shindan.garooda.jp)[2] and official twitter account[3] started on February 24th, 2010. It took the domain "shindanmaker.com" in the following month.[4] ShindanMaker started multilingual support in May of that year as it gained popularity among some non-Japanese speakers from the very beginning.[5] ShindanMaker's official English Twitter account was launched in January 2012.[6]

Taking a Shindan

Once the user is on the website, they can choose from a list of "popular" or "Hot" tests, often with a silly theme such as "Monster Girl Generator." Once they select a test one they can input their name (or others) into a generator and the site will generate results randomly using the characters selected. The results can be shared on social media sites like Facebook or Twitter.
