Skirt As Blanket refers to a series of fan artworks depicting a character from a pop culture series appearing to cover a sleeping character in a blanket. However, the second panel reveals that the character is lifting the sleeping character's skirt, revealing her underwear. The trend grew popular on Twitter / X in June 2024, with artists focusing mostly on ships with the template.
Origin
On June 19th, 2024, Twitter / X[1] user @Kokokoro__ uploaded Girls Band Cry fan art in which the character Momoka Kawaragi gives a blanket to a sleeping Nina Iseri, though the second panel reveals she's actually lifting Iseri's skirt. The post received over 6,200 reposts and 45,000 likes in two weeks (shown below). In the comment section, @Kokokoro__[2] clarified that their piece was not the first example of the trend but forgot the original artist, who remains unknown as of October 7th, 2024.
Spread
In late June 2024, @Kokokoro__'s fan art inspired other Twitter / X artists. For example, on June 23rd, 2024, Twitter / X[3] user @Jon__Eve uploaded fan art of March 7th and Stelle from Honkai Star Rail. The post received 13,000 reposts and 120,000 likes in one week.
The next day. Twitter / X[4] user @Ronda9128899 uploaded fan art of Nijika Ijichi and Ryo Yamada from Bocchi The Rock!. It received over 12,000 reposts and 153,000 likes in one week.
On June 29th, 2024, Twitter / X[5] user uploaded Sousou no Frieren cosplayers referencing the fan art, receiving more than 3,900 reposts and 55,000 likes in five days.
